When: December 23rd – 27th, 2016
Where: Big Sur, CA & San Francisco, CA

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday with family and friends! It was so nice to take some time away from work and enjoy being with my family, whom I don’t get to see very often.

On the 23rd, Jon and I flew to San Francisco to spend the holiday with my family. We chose to stay at the funky Zeppelin Hotel in Union Square, because of how awesome the interior design looked online. When we got there it didn’t disappoint. After settling in, we had dinner at Cala, which we were not super impressed with sadly.

Early the next morning we drove three hours to Big Sur to see gorgeous views of the Pacific coast. Driving down Route 1 was so much fun. We stopped at a million viewpoints along the way for pictures and short hikes. We tried to stay in high spirits even though it was pouring rain, windy and foggy most of the time.

One of my favorite spots was McWay Falls in the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Luckily the skies cleared up just enough for us to see the famous waterfall spilling into the Pacific Ocean – so gorgeous!

On our way home, we stopped at the highly recommended Big Sur Bakery and Restaurant for lunch, which was ahh-mazing. After driving for hours, hiking in the rain, there was nothing better than a warm earl grey tea, a donut and a chicken salad sandwich to split. Once we got out of the Bay Area, the next few days we spent in Sacramento, enjoying family time and going to In-N-Out whenever we got the chance.

On Monday, we drove back to SF, where we did some frolicking in the city. We stayed at the Axiom Hotel in Union Square, which we liked even better than the Zeppelin. The vibe was more us and the surrounding area was much cleaner.

We had a late lunch at Tacolicious, which was everything we wanted it to be and more. There isn’t the best Mexican on the East Coast! I highly recommend the carnitas, they were my favorite. For desert we went to Ghirardelli Chocolate factory. Since it was so crowded we took it to go. Later that night we walked along Pier 39 and soaked in the views before meeting up with friends.

On our last day in SF, we had brunch at Sweet Maple. The millionaires bacon was sooo good – you have to try it! Afterwards we saw the famous Painted Ladies and then walked along Lombard St. We ended our trip at the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park before heading back to the airport for our red eye flight home.
